The Wiltshire Masonic Bowls Association was formed in May 1946 and this year celebrates its 70th anniversary.  The associations primary objectives is to bring together Wiltshire Brethren and their families in friendship and bowling sportsmanship and to provide support to Masonic and non-Masonic Charities.

YEARLY REPORT OF THE WILTSHIRE MASONIC BOWLS ASSOCIATION-2026

 

The Wiltshire Masonic Bowls Association is shortly celebrating our Annual Presentation Dinner It is this year 80 years since the first President Lord Methuen was elected but unfortunately the age of some of our members, being the wrong side of 50, has meant a rapid decline in numbers in recent years. We heavily rely on our guest members being wives and friends to produce a team of 12 players. This season in company with a lot of other Bowls Clubs we have had to cancel a total of 5 Bowls Matches owing to exceptionally hot weather. We were however successful against our longest playing Masonic Rivals the County of Somerset.

We are not purists and therefore love the third wood so our matches are usually Mixed Triples. The games, although obviously competitive are played in the right spirit with fun, lots of banter and a very enjoyable “Bowlers Tea”.

 

At the start of the Season we had a record amount of Competitive matches to play (including a new fixture against Swindon West End) sadly owing to extreme heat and lack of players on both sides we actually played only 1 Masonic Bowls Association Game against Somerset    Out of the 7 non Masonic games for the reasons given above we only played 3 games and for the first time in a number of years we won against Calne Bowls cCub

 

Two Internal Masonic Bowling Competitions were also held:

Singles Champion (Hawksworth Cup) - Mrs Sue Basson

Runner up: (Michael Lee Cup) - W.Bro Phil Brown (Senior Vice President)

 

Drawn Pairs Champions (Stan Iles Cup) - Bro.Andy Grey & Nigel Austic (Calne B.C Member)

Runners up - Mrs Carole Butler & Mrs Pat Stainer

 

For the past 10 years we have entered  team(s) in the “Masonic Annual Charity “(MACE) Competition this year it was held in Selby Yorkshire.  Sadly for a variety of reasons (mainly health concerns) we were unable to provide support for this very worthwhile event.  We did however send a donation.

 

I thank all my Officers for all their hard work, throughout a very busy Season, thus ensuring that the year was once again a successful one.

 

Once again we were very grateful for the bowling support of member’s wives and friends and the hospitality of Calne Bowls Club for hosting of a number of Competitions and Games.
